Wow! It has been a really long time since I have tried to write anything on here. I have felt the need to write slowly coming on. It has been a long time since I actively wrote anything that was not related to my job. Gosh, life moves at you so fast. You blink and you are in your middle 30s, and life is not exactly as you thought it would be. Not to say that I am not happy-- there are times when I am, but let's just say I would change a lot given the chance. I went through a tough breakup in my mid-20s and I feel like life has just stood still since then. I was on a track moving forward, when it derailed and I decided to just say on the side of the track rather than get back on.
I gained weight in my mid-20s, right around the time the BIG breakup happened and I have fought it since. I few years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS. What is PCOS? Sometimes, I feel as if it is just a blanket term. Are you having problems with weight and hormones? Are you a woman? Well then it is PCOS. PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. What causes it? They don't really know. To break it down to layman's terms, it is an imbalance in your hormones. It can manifest in a number of ways. For me it has caused havoc in my blood sugar and insulin levels, causing insulin resistance. Here is a quote from WebMD: Insulin is a hormone that helps your body's cells get the sugar they need for energy. Sometimes these cells don't fully respond to insulin. This is called insulin resistance. This has made me put on weight at an alarming rate and made it very difficult to lose weight. This comes after spending my early 20s anorexic and bulimic, which is a possible cause of the hormonal imbalance. My sister has recently had great success at losing weight with a Paleo diet, which with it's no sugar, low carb seems perfect for me.
This blog will now be about my journey to lose this weight and cure myself of this disease. This is the start of my new track and I am finally ready to go down it...
